Millbrook Boreholes to Lamaload Reservoir: Finds report

Finds assessment undertaken on behalf of Oxford Archaeology North. The finds are typical of midden-type domestic waste from the early 20th century. There are, however, certain unusual aspects about the assemblage. The proportion of medicine bottles is relatively high, whilst the proportion of drinks bottles is very low. It has already been suggested that this may be largely due to the finds collection policy, which favoured complete bottles over broken examples, and medicine bottles, being smaller, tend to survive better. Clearly, only small numbers of finds were retrieved, but they do, nevertheless, help to illustrate some aspects of the lives of the people living near Macclesfield in the early 20th century.
